From News Center (Text by Liu Shipeng and Shen Shiyi, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering; Photo by Yang Zhenshuai, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering) On the evening of December 19, the first "Bridge Language Cup" Stand-up Comedy Event for Chinese and Indonesian Students, co-organized by the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the International Exchange Department (School of International Education), was successfully held at Ingenuity Academy. Centered on the theme of "Chinese-Foreign Cultural Encounters", the event provided a platform for Chinese and Indonesian students to promote cultural exchange through humor and to deepen friendship through the youth's laughter.
The event kicked off with an enthusiastic opening by the host. More than ten contestants took the stage in turn, delivering humorous performances on topics such as cultural differences and campus life. Wu Linfang, a student from the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, opened the contest with an English speech titled "Hello, Curiosity". Indonesian students Robi and Wijaya then shared their amusing experiences of learning Chinese. Their vivid storytelling and slightly accented expressions drew rounds of laughter from the audience. A mid-session interactive segment titled "Guess the Buzzwords" encouraged active participation from both Chinese and Indonesian students. Participants eagerly competed to answer questions and took the initiative to explain cultural meanings to one another, further deepening mutual understanding of each other's language and culture in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
The event maintained a lively atmosphere throughout, with continuous laughter filling the venue. Through humorous lines and vivid performances, the contestants demonstrated the charm of language and the beauty of cultural integration. At the same time, joyful interactions between Chinese and Indonesian contestants and students further energized the competition. In particular, the final performance by Indonesian student Galuh featured outstanding audience engagement, prompting enthusiastic responses from teachers and students alike and pushing the atmosphere to its peak. At the conclusion of the contest, the judges gave full recognition to the contestants' performances, especially praising their creative thinking and cross-cultural expressive abilities. They also offered professional suggestions regarding performance techniques.
The successful hosting of the "Bridge Language Cup" Stand-up Comedy Event not only provided Chinese and Indonesian students with a platform to showcase themselves and engage in cultural exchange, but also built a bridge of friendship. From the attractive performances on stage to the close interactions off stage, the event vividly embodied the spirit of "connected by mountains and waters, united by shared laughter". As an extension of the “Learning Together, Skills Without Limits" China-Indonesia student partnership series, this event also served as a meaningful assessment of the outcomes of learning and cultural exchanges between Chinese and Indonesian students, allowing participants to fully enjoy the joy and vitality of campus life. Looking ahead, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering will actively develop more diverse and in-depth cross-cultural exchange platforms by organizing a wide range of activities. These efforts aim to encourage young students to broaden their horizons through mutual learning and grow up together, and to inject greater youthful energy into the continued deepening of people-to-people exchange and cooperation between China and Indonesia.
